Giving Tuesday

WRITTEN BY NICK RIEBEL

When Lisa Stelly created Fancy Sprinkles in 2016, she made a conscious decision to build a company that would change the baking industry and provide better products for the next generation of bakers. In her mission to change the baking industry, it was important for Lisa to create a safe and fun work environment where she welcomed all good humans. As she has said, “[We are] a melting pot of colorful sprinkles”.

To support our mission, and dedication to diversity and inclusion, this Giving Tuesday, we are donating 100% of the proceeds of our “Happy Holigays” sprinkle blend to the It Gets Better Project. The It Gets Better Project inspires people across the globe to share their stories and remind the next generation of LGBTQ+ youth that hope is out there, and it will get better.

WHY YOU ASK?

Today, one of Fancy Sprinkles’ core workplace values is vulnerability.

Vul·ner·a·bil·i·ty
Noun
Willingness to show emotion or to allow one’s weakness to be seen or known

As a gay man in my thirties, I’ve found myself being vulnerable time and time again. When I came out to my family in 2013, I never imagined I would be a proud member of the LGBTQ+ or even a Vice President of Marketing at a brand such as Fancy Sprinkles. Success for me didn’t come with the idea of being vulnerable and my sexuality was certainly my perceived “weakness”.

Today, I have found being a member of the LGBTQ+ community is not a weakness, but a superpower. Allowing myself to show emotion enables my abilities to connect with my work and my co-workers in a more meaningful way. Fancy Sprinkles provides a safe space for me to share my emotions, and encourages it.

For Giving Tuesday, Lisa Stelly and Fancy Sprinkles have committed to sharing 100% of the profits of our “Happy Holigays” sprinkle blend with the It Gets Better Project. It brings me great pride to see our company dedicated to supporting and amplifying diverse and inclusive voices.

2020 has been a vulnerable year for all of us, but I’m thankful to have the opportunity to work for a company that’s mission is to make the bad days a little bit more “Fancy”. I hope you join us in supporting this amazing cause and being vulnerable enough to share your story.
